4 slices of bread (sourdough or Italian preferred)
4 tablespoons butter, softened
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup sliced pepperoni
1/4 cup pizza sauce (for dipping)
1 teaspoon dried oregano or Italian seasoning (optional)
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Prep the ingredients: Gather all your ingredients and slice the bread if not pre-sliced.
Butter the bread: Spread 1 tablespoon of softened butter on one side of each slice of bread.
Assemble the sandwich: On the non-buttered side, layer 1/2 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese and sliced pepperoni, sprinkle with optional seasonings, and top with another slice of bread, buttered side facing out.
Preheat the skillet: Heat a skillet over medium heat until warm.
Cook the sandwich: Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes or until the bottom is golden brown and crispy.
