Imagine layers of tender potatoes enveloped in a rich, creamy cheese sauce, bubbling away in the oven. This recipe is not just a meal; it’s a family favorite that has stood the test of time.
Ingredients
Scale:
4 large Russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
2 cups heavy cream
2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon fresh herbs (optional, e.g., thyme or rosemary), chopped
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well mixed.
Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes, then sprinkle with half of the shredded cheese.
Repeat the layering with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese. Finish with a sprinkle of fresh herbs if desired.
Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
Let it cool for 10 minutes before serving to allow the layers to set.
